Prevention strategies1
There is no vaccine available right now to protect against this new H1N1 virus type. But there are everyday actions that can help to prevent the transmission of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Therefore, human swine flu prevention methods are standard infection control procedures which intend to stop cross-transmission of the virus such as:
- Hand washing with soap and water. Wash your hands prior to eating or preparing food.
- Hand disinfection: When hand washing is impracticable perform hand hygiene frequently. Clean hands shall be disinfected using e.g. Softa-Man®.
- Surface Disinfection Thoroughly clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces according to routine measures or immediately after an episode of illness by using fast acting alcoholic surface disinfectants or dilutable aqueous concentrates.
- Immediately remove and wash clothing or linens that may be contaminated with viruses after an episode of illness (preferably wash at 60°C).
